How does Semaglutide work?
Semaglutide is a medication used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes, but studies suggest that it may also help people without diabetes lose weight. Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists, which mimic the hormone GLP-1 in your body to lower blood sugar levels after you’ve eaten a meal. GLP-1 inhibits glucagon release (which slows down the release of sugar into the blood so that you burn more fat), slows down gastric emptying (makes you feel full), and lowers the desire for food intake (because you feel full).
Semaglutide is not recommended for patients with Type 1 diabetes

How do we source our Semaglutide?
Many people may have questions about the origin of our Semaglutide medication. Tuscan Sun Fontana Medspa sources our Semaglutide from a compounding pharmacy. When medications go on a shortage list, compounding pharmacies are able to compound all of the ingredients that consumers specifically need into medication. I have been and always will be concerned with the quality of the compounding pharmacies that we conduct business with. I make sure that our compounding pharmacy not only has a third-party lab inspection, but it is also inspected monthly by the Board of Pharmacy (of its respective state). Right now, Semaglutide can be compounded, and we would like all current & prospective patients to know that when the medication goes to a third-party lab, it is tested for purity, pH, and other levels before it is shipped to us. Please keep in mind that sometimes there can be a delay (due to a backup of the third-party lab for testing purposes), but you can be assured we will not accept any medication until it has been fully inspected. Please also know that our medical team of doctors and nurse practitioners can prescribe name brand weight loss medications, if so desired. One of the pros of compounded prescriptions is that they can be more affordable than name-brand medications because many insurances will not pay for weight loss medications. Another advantage of compounded prescriptions is that they are usually readily available to take home the same day. What excites you about Semaglutide?
Dr. Brinda Navalgund: I find Semaglutide helps people still be social (and not have to worry about what to eat at a restaurant or when hanging out with friends). It just makes you less interested in food. I think it allows people to make healthier choices, and when people realize their clothes are beginning to feel loose and the scales are starting to decrease, they start to feel better about themselves – especially when they are not making significant lifestyle changes.
Yvonne Garcia: It’s exciting to know that we have a medication we can use for chronic weight management for women who are in perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause that are having difficulty losing weight in their mid-section.
Alexa Rebrook: Patients are able to lose weight in a way that fits into their lifestyle and needs. It doesn’t require a rigid diet and exercise routine. Patients can make small healthy changes that get them great results.
Maggie Biedermann: I like that it not only makes people feel better about themselves (when they see results), but also it makes them healthier. I like that it helps in all aspects of the patients’ life.
Why is Semaglutide a game changer for weight loss?
BN: The reason for it being a game changer is that there are fewer contraindications associated with it (in the past you had to be careful if people were on anti-depressants/anti-hypertensive medications). The once-a-week injection is convenient and it is injected into the subcutaneous tissue, which is easy to administer (along with a tiny needle that everyone can tolerate). Even the side effects are transient and can easily be managed.
YG: Semaglutide is a game changer because you can see visible results of weight loss in the mid-section without using a starvation diet or a controlled substance (like Phentermine) for short-term weight management.
MB: It’s fairly easy to take. It’s not like a diet, where you have to think all day and count or calculate. It helps you not be hungry instead of trying to manager hunger or starving all day.
What positive changes have you noticed in your patients?
YG: I’ve seen many positive changes in my patients. They are pleased with the results, they have more energy to exercise, and some are weighing in, measuring, and recording their journeys.
AR: I have seen a variety of positive changes in my patients including improved self-confidence, less aches and pains, and having a more positive relationship with food.
MB: The majority of my clients are really happy about their results. They are feeling good when they see the actual progress they have made, and are excited to stay on the path to health and wellness.
SS: Self-confidence. That – in itself – is a big win. It’s that moment when you can say, “My food addiction no longer has a hold on me.” You are aware of what your body actually needs to be satisfied, and you are able to say “no” once you feel full.
